The UAB Blazers did lose a lot of talent from last year. But one guy who is back and figures to be Bill Clark’s go-to weapon is their 1,200-yard rusher last year, Spencer Brown. This guy may be the best player in the Conference USA and could lead Clark’s program to another title. He has that much potential overall.

Last year, Brown rushed for 1,227 yards and 16 touchdowns, and he added a receiving touchdown. Now, he did only average four and a half yards a carry. But that’s because Clark used him more as workhorse back, which makes since given his size at 6’0″ 230 pounds. He’s a power back. And he did all of this as a sophomore, so he could be greater this year.

In two years of college, Brown has 2,556 rushing yards, 26 rushing touchdowns, and an average of about five yards a carry. He’s that type of power back who can carry the load, getting nearly 20 carries a game. The Vols should take notice and do that with Ty Chandler.

Anyway, Tennessee football could have trouble with him. Remember, they are replacing everybody on the defensive line and don’t have a lot of depth there. So Brown could wear them down, and Clark knows that. Jeremy Pruitt has got to be ready if this team is going to avoid a November scare after a brutal October stretch.
