Tennessee football: Five key Vols to watch vs. BYU Cougars
We already mentioned the weapons in Tennessee football’s passing game. None of them, though, should have the impact that Dominick Wood-Anderson should have on Saturday. He had 79 yards on three receptions last week against the Georgia State Panthers, and it still wasn’t enough. Jim Chaney needs to get him the ball a lot more this week.
All of the BYU Cougars’ linebackers in their rotation range from 205 to 226 pounds. The only ones who are bigger are redshirt freshman Peyton Wilgar, who is 235 pounds, and true freshmen Alex Miskela and Solofa Funa, who are 235 and 245 pounds respectively. But again, none of them play. Oh. and none of the linebackers are over 6’3″.
Wood-Anderson is 6’4″ 257 pounds. He is primarily a receiving tight end, as that’s his specific skill. There is absolutely no reason to not give him the ball every time since literally nobody on BYU can cover him. They would have to turn to a defensive end to keep him in check. And he’s the guy Guarantano should be looking to every time.
Last year, Tyson Helton got flack for not using Wood-Anderson enough. Chaney is already getting flack for what happened in the opener. The best way to fix that is to sell out and try to get Wood-Anderson the ball on every passing play Saturday. He provides such an amazing mismatch that nobody would be able to stop him.
