Charleston Southern Buccaneers at South Carolina Gamecocks

TV: SEC Network

Saturday, Sept. 7 at 12 p.m. E.T.; Williams-Brice Stadium; Columbia, S.C.

Joining the Missouri Tigers and Tennessee football are the South Carolina Gamecocks, another SEC East team to lose a bad game last week. Unlike Mizzou, though, S.C. lost to a North Carolina Tar Heels team that went 2-9 last year and has a new (old) head coach in Mack Brown. So they may have been a program in even worse shape than the Georgia State Panthers.

To make matters worse, the Gamecocks lost their quarterback in Jake Bentley. So now it’s almost panic time in Columbia. They were supposed to improve on last year’s 7-6 team. At least they get a breather to correct a few things with an FCS school coming to town this weekend.

The Charleston Southern Buccaneers got blown out by the Furman Paladins in their season-opener last week, and they were 5-6 last year. So they shouldn’t be a tough team to handle, but this will be a good test for third-year head coach Mark Tucker as he tries to get something going with this FCS program.

Prediction

We have no gambling picks to bring you since this is an FCS matchup. What’s clear, though, is that this game will be an easy win for South Carolina. Despite their issues, Muschamp’s defense is going to be too much, and they have too many weapons. The Gamecocks win a sleeper in a blowout that nobody cares to see.
