All of a sudden, the Florida Gators’ win over the Miami Hurricanes doesn’t look so good. To be fair, maybe Miami has just had a rough schedule. After all, the North Carolina Tar Heels are looking better than expected right now. Anyway, Dan Mullen’s team still has a Power Five win, and they are still 2-0.
Add in the fact that they shut out the UT Martin Skyhawks this week, even if it was against an FCS school, and they are in a tier above the middle of the pack as well. So for now, we’re keeping them in a tier with the Texas A&M Aggies, but it’s worth noting that they also have a good bit to prove given preseason expectations.
Right now, the defense appears to be elite. In fact, it is a major strength for the program, as it single-handedly delivered them that Miami win. But the offense has really got to get going if it is to compete at a high level in the league.
For now, the Gators belong at No. 5 in our SEC Power Rankings, but the Kentucky Wildcats will be a great revenge opportunity for them Saturday. Then they host the Tennessee Vols and the Towson Tigers. So they should be 5-0 before a brutal stretch run that includes three teams ahead of them on this list and a road trip to face the South Carolina Gamecocks.
