Southeastern Louisiana Lions at Ole Miss Rebels

TV: SEC Network

Saturday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. E.T.; Vaught-Hemingway Stadium; Oxford, Miss.

By beating the Arkansas Razorbacks last week, the Ole Miss Rebels are now in position to be that last team from the SEC West to make a bowl game. They get to face the other bottom-feeder SEC East team this year outside of Tennessee football in the Vanderbilt Commodores, so the path to six wins is there.

That’s the case even after losing to a Group of Five team in the Memphis Tigers. Last week, Matt Corral took a step forward in Rich Rodriguez’s offense, and Matt Luke’s team is ready to continue going forward with him. This week is their chance to get to a winning record after that crucial conference win.

There is no betting line for us to cover in this game, but the Rebels are hosting a Southeastern Louisiana team that dominated Jacksonville State to open the season. Scoff at that all you want, but JSU did beat the Chattanooga Mocs, who have an elite FCS quarterback in Nick Tiano. As a result, they won’t be intimidated by Corral.

Prediction

Okay, so Southeastern Louisiana won’t be intimidated by Corral. That’s irrelevant. They’ll still dominate this game, and it’s the first of many boring ones we’re going to have to pick this week. Ole Miss wins in a blowout. And with it, they get to 2-1 on the year ahead of their showdown with the California Golden Bears.
