There were many eye-catching moments for Tennessee football against the UT Chattanooga Mocs. Here is a photo gallery from the Volunteers’ victory.
Even if it came against an FCS team, Tennessee football fans were more than happy to take the win on Saturday over the Chattanooga Mocs. That it was a 45-0 shutout win only made it taste a littlet bit better. The Vols set the tone early on a 58-yard kickoff return to open the game. They scored a touchdown on that drive by sticking to the ground game.
On Chattanooga’s first drive, they blocked a punt and ran it in for a touchdown to immediately go up 14-0. That was all before Jarrett Guarantano got red-hot, throwing three touchdown passes to Jauan Jennings, Cedric Tillman and Marquez Callaway and completing all seven of his passes after his first incompletion in the game. He got a way with a few balls, but he produced some highlights.
Meanwhile, Tennessee football forced four turnovers on top of that blocked punt, including three interceptions. And the backup quarterbacks were even able to get into the game, as both J.T. Shrout and Brian Maurer showed what they can do. Maurer had a touchdown run. So the Vols managed to generate lots of spark plays. Here’s a photo gallery from their win.
After losing to the Georgia State Panthers and then in overtime to the BYU Cougars, Tennessee football will take any victory. So beating Chattanooga for their first win of the season to get them to 1-2 is a welcome accomplishment.
They may get blown out next week against the Florida Gators to start SEC play, but at least they gave fans one game to have a little fun with before that all starts. At the very least, they managed to avoid going 0-12 this year, which would have been a real possibility if they lost this game.
And given what we saw from this team the previous two weeks, it was fair to say losing this game was a real possibility. As a result, anybody affiliated with Rocky Top will take the win. It was a major morale boost for now.
