Lots of players got to see action in Tennessee football’s 45-0 win over the Chattanooga Mocs. Here are the Volunteers who earned our Smokey Points.

There was clear improvement for many Tennessee football players in their win over the Chattanooga Mocs Saturday. Despite it coming against an FCS school, the Vols had many players take leaps forward.

One of the hopes of playing such a school is being able to get your backups some experience, and Jeremy Pruitt was able to make sure that happened. So it was a double-positive for Rocky Top after such a brutal start to the season.

Lots of backups for Tennessee football were able to show glimpses of what they could do, and some other showed their glaring weaknesses. All of them, though, showed a few things they could and couldn’t do.

As we get set to dish out our Smokey Points for the Vols’ win over Chattanooga, we’ll be looking at the players who deserve props for allowing Pruitt to run so many guys. Somebody had to be responsible for putting the game in hand, and those players are the guys we are going to be looking at.

Now, that doesn’t mean that these players were all perfect on the day. But they showed just enough to warrant praise for putting the game in hand. This was the hardest list to do all year because so many people contributed to the shutout, but that’s why we are looking at the ones who had the biggest impact to put the game away early.

Again, this isn’t completely indicative of how the players will look throughout the season. They were facing Chattanooga. But somebody deserves praise for finally giving UT some good news this year.

So which players made that splash? Who gets credit for putting the game in hand? Take a look at that here. These are the top five Vols performers in Tennessee football’s first win of the 2019 season, a 45-0 victory over Chattanooga.
