SEC Power Rankings following Week Three of 2019: No change for Vols
For two straight weeks, the Alabama Crimson Tide have failed to cover. Next to the Georgia Bulldogs, they’ve played the easiest schedule of any of the teams who are still undefeated, but 3-0 is 3-0. And they have dominated two Power Five teams, earning them a spot at No. 2 in our SEC Power Rankings.
But we don’t have them at No. 1 yet. The depth is becoming a bit of an issue. Bama struggled at times in their 47-23 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks this past weekend, and Will Muschamp gave Nick Saban all he had with the talent he could work with. That’s the second straight week lack of depth somewhat showed for the herd of elephants in Tuscaloosa.
While the defense may be a bit of a concern, though, the offense is flawless. Tua Tagovailoa completed 28-of-36 passes for 444 yards and five touchdowns, and he now has over 1,000 yards,12 touchdowns and no interceptions. Crazy enough, he’s actually looking better than he did throughout all of last year. Can he keep it up?
Well, he will early on in this season. Up next for the Tide are the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Then they host the Ole Miss Rebels. So they are almost certain to get to 5-0 over the next two weeks before hitting their bye week, and then they’ll have their first test of the year on the road against the Texas A&M Aggies.
