893. . 2-1 (0-0). Previous: . Bulldogs . 9. team

Our love for the Mississippi State Bulldogs had to tank a bit this week after their 31-24 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats. It’s not a bad loss, as that team is 3-0, but they did blow a game at home. Doing so results in the first notable change we have been able to bring you so far in our SEC Power Rankings for Week Three.

Joe Moorhead’s team is young and inexperienced, so they are going to struggle at times despite this being the second year in his system. Now, there also may be a quarterback controversy in Starkville with Garrett Shrader finishing last week’s game. He got all the national love with the helicopter dive on fourth down that just missed the marker late.

To be fair, Stevens was hurt last week despite playing. And Shrader, overall, was awful. So should Stevens get fully healthy, the job is likely to remain his. The other issues, though, is fourth quarter defense. That was the second time in three games MSU allowed two touchdowns in the fourth.

If they’re going to get back on track, they can’t do that. We’ll find out how back on track they are this week in a key game against the Kentucky Wildcats at home. A visit to the Auburn Tigers will follow before a bye and then maybe a second bye at the Vols. But they have to beat UK.
