It doesn’t matter that Kyle Trask is replacing Feleipe Franks when it comes to this game. Tennessee football has a history of turning backup quarterbacks into superstars, and that is likely to happen again this weekend. However, the one guy who could head that off is the guy who needs to live up to his hype.
The 6’0″ 190-pound senior took a horrible angle and was partially responsible for that BYU Cougars Hail Mary at the end of regulation to set up the game-tying field goal. But he did come back around and have an interception against the Chattanooga Mocs. So maybe he is starting to hit his stride a bit more as the other guys settle in at defensive back.
Mullen’s spread offense makes for a system that does not allow too many sacks, so any defense of Florida will have to come from playmakers and veterans in the secondary. As a result, we are turning to the one veteran in that unit, Warrior, to make that difference.
Warrior’s father, Dale Carter, broke out against Florida way back in 1990, with a kickoff return for a touchdown and two interceptions. Could he do the same thing on Saturday? It would be the perfect sendoff for the legacy senior. If he doesn’t have those numbers, he at least has to do his job containing the offense, which he struggled with early this year.
