5. Vols’ ability to exploit Kyle Trask’s lack of mobility
Last week, the Florida Gators got a spark when they put in Kyle Trask after the horrible injury to Feleipe Franks. Trask then led them back to shock the Kentucky Wildcats and end up winning the game on the road to barely make it to 3-0. It is true that Trask is a change of pace for UF, but can he keep that surprise level up?
Heading into this game, Tennessee football has a full week to prepare for Trask. And Trask is a pure pocket passer, the type of player Jeremy Pruitt’s 3-4 system is able to eat alive. Remember, the Vols’ only win over Florida the last 14 years just happened to be the time in which they had a pure pocket passer, Austin Appleby, throwing the ball.
So the Vols, with their defense back and healthy, do have a chance to exploit that. Trask will be the first player they have faced like that all season. How will Dan Mullen adjust knowing this? Pruitt is supposed to be a defensive genius, and Derrick Ansley is his hand-picked successor. Can they exploit the Gators’ issues here?
Whether or not they can will go a long way toward determining if this game is close or now. Franks was not super-mobile, but he is more mobile than Trask. And with a full week to prepare for a guy who didn’t even look that great last week, the Vols have a chance to cash in on something big here. But they’ve got to be ready.
