Tennessee football at Florida: Five Gators to watch for against Vols
There are 1,000 questions surrounding Kyle Trask. After replacing Feleipe Franks last week, though, he looked very solid, completing nine-of-13 passes for 126 yards and running for a four-yard touchdown while leading the Gators back from down 21-10 to beat the Kentuckty Wildcats on the road. He also threw no interceptions.
That’s not too bad for a guy who had no expectations of playing significantly this year. But the fact of the matter is Trask doesn’t have Franks’s mobility. And he was once a two-star recruit. So Jeremy Pruitt and Derrick Ansley, if they’re worth even 10 percent of the hype they generate as defensive geniuses, should have something up their sleeve with a week to prepare for him.
Still, Tennessee football has a long history of backup quarterbacks coming in to give the Vols trouble. Remember the Tim Tebow 4th and 1 conversion in 2006? What about Treon Harris leading a fourth-quarter comeback in 2014? Then there was Will Grier, replacing a suspended Harris, leading a fourth-quarter comeback in 2015 before he himself was suspended.
Simply put, backup quarterbacks turn into stars against the Vols. We’re not saying that will happen here, but the coaches have got to be ready for him. Otherwise, they will get embarrassed again for lack of preparation. That can’t happen with all the money they’re getting paid.
