3. 840. Scouting Report. Defensive Back. Junior. Shawn Davis. Pick Analysis. player

Shawn Davis and Kaiir Elam both make up a group of young Florida Gators defensive backs trying to make up for all the injuries that have hit the team so far this year. But Davis is the do-it-all playmaker who will come through in the most crucial moment to make sure his team pulls out a victory in a close game.

The safety came through last week with two interceptions against the Kentucky Wildcats, and for the year he also has 12 tackles and a tackle for a loss along with a pass deflection. So he knows how to be all over the field, and that’s dangerous for Tennessee football given what the Vols have been dealing with recently.

Jarrett Guarantano has not been great at looking off safeties early on in the year, and he has thrown lots of balls into coverage while missing open guys. That’s a dream come true for a guy like Davis, who is in prime position to make a play on any Guarantano mistake. Don’t count out what he could do if Todd Grantham sends him on a blitz as well.

Jeremy Pruitt hired Jim Chaney to exploit mismatches, but he’s also got to be aware of where his team has looked weak so far. Guarantano making dangerous passes is a part of that. They have to watch out for Davis all day on Saturday.
