Southern Miss Golden Eagles at No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide

Line: Alabama -38.5; Over/Under: 61.5; TV: ESPN2

Saturday, Sept. 21 at Noon E.T.; Bryant-Denny Stadium; Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Alabama Crimson Tide were the one team to kill us on the spread last week. All they had to do was NOT allow the South Carolina Gamecocks to score that final touchdown with 11 seconds left, and we would have hit the over and the cover call on it.

However, as it was, Nick Saban wrecked us. And for the second straight week they failed to cover. This week, it’s a different story. They host a Southern Miss Golden Eagles team that may not be horrible after its 2-1 start but just barely escaped the Troy Trojans last week. Hey, at least they can beat Sun Belt teams unlike Tennessee football.

Anyway, they play a much more imposing school from Alabama this week, the one whose offense is rolling and who looks even better this year. Tua Tagovailoa is off to a hotter start than he was last year, and the Tide continue to dominate everybody they face.

Prediction

Southern Miss allowed 38 points to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. They allowed 42 points to Troy. As a result, it’s safe to say they’ll allow over 55 to Alabama. That’s the baseline, so go ahead and take the over on 61.5 points. Also, given the fact that they struggled to put away the Trojans, bet on Alabama to cover as well. They let us down last week, but we’re betting on the Tide again.

Alabama: 59 Southern Miss: 7 (Alabama -38.5; Over 61.5)
