Jeremy Pruitt leads Tennessee football to Gainesville to face Florida Saturday. Here is the preview for the Volunteers and Gators in The Swamp.

Here we go again. Tennessee football travels to Florida Saturday afternoon to take on the Gators, as they look to build off their first win of the season last week following a horrific 0-2 start. And they have to do it against their hated rival who has beaten them 13 of the past 14 years.

This is the first SEC game for the Vols, their first road game and their first game against a Power Five school. After losing to the Georgia State Panthers and BYU Cougars at home to start the year, they beat the Chattanooga Mocs 45-0 last week. So they still have not yet even beaten an FBS program on the season.

Meanwhile, Florida is coming off a comeback win at the Kentucky Wildcats. In their second year under Dan Mullen, they are 3-0 with two wins over Power Five schools in Kentucky and the Miami Hurricanes, one on the road and one at a neutral site. Here is all the information you need for today’s game.

Tennessee Volunteers at No. 9 Florida Gators

Last year’s meeting between the two schools was disastrous for UT. Tennessee football committed six turnovers and surrendered a safety en route to losing 47-21. The last time they met in The Swamp, Butch Jones and Jim McElwain tried to out-incompetent each other, as the Vols lost 26-20 on a Feleipe Franks Hail Mary.

Franks suffered a season-ending injury last week at Kentucky, so Kyle Trask gets the start for Florida this week while Emory Jones is likely to see action. On the Vols’ side, Jarrett Guarantano still has issues at quarterback, but they are much healthier with Trey Smith back in a rhythm, Daniel Bituli returning at linebacker, and Bryce Thompson’s suspension lifted.

So despite the results of both teams on paper through three games this year, there are a few things that actually favor the Vols in this matchup. Will it be enough for them to pull off the upset? That’s not likely, but at least they have a few reasons for confidence.

Despite this game being a staple on CBS, it will not be the game of the week for that network for the second straight year. Last year, it was an evening kickoff on ESPN. This year, it’s a noon kickoff. Dating back to 1996, the only other years it wasn’t on CBS were 2012, 2014 and 2018. UT has lost all three times. Can they break that cycle this year? We’ll know soon enough.
