A 34-3 loss to the Florida Gators on the road didn’t have too many great Tennessee football players. Here are the top five Volunteers performers.

It’s hard to find many good performers in a 34-3 loss. But as has been the case through the first four games of the year for Tennessee football, there were plenty of Vols who came to play on Saturday against the Florida Gators in The Swamp.

Despite what the scoreboard showed, this had the potential to be a game. Because of certain players stepping up, UT was staying in it for a while, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. But key mistakes and lack of execution on offense resulted in them coming undone.

Still, plenty of Tennessee football players deserve credit for keeping this close early on. The fact that it was a 7-0 game midway through the second quarter proves that some guys were out doing their parts.

As we get set to dish out our Smokey Points, those guys who did their parts will get a good bit of love. We’ll also tout the guys who were able to provide a spark. Now, some of the guys on the list also made critical mistakes. But they kept balling to the point that they deserved shoutouts from us anyway.

In some cases, the standout performers are the usual suspects on the year. These are the guys who continue to show up and play in a big way while so many other people let them down. At least they can get some love here. After all, their team is not getting much love, and it’s only going to get more brutal going forward.

So who is still playing hard despite all of these issues in this 1-3 start? Which players did their best to make it a game in The Swamp? Take a look at that here. These are our Tennessee football Smokey Points following the Vols’ 34-3 loss to the Florida Gators Saturday.
