At this point, the Texas A&M Aggies are a disappointment. Call it an overreaction, but given the amount of money Jimbo Fisher has been paid and the recruiting and development he’s known for, this team was not supposed to lose at home 28-20 to the Auburn Tigers in a game that wasn’t even that close.

It’s one thing to lose to the Clemson Tigers on the road. Losing to Auburn like that, however, shows that this team still has plenty of work to do. And yes, they had to drop in our SEC Power Rankings as a result. Beating Lamar and Texas State is not worthy of being in the top 25, so Fisher’s program is a bit of a problem right now.

Fans in College Station should be questioning why his guys have not taken the next step. Again, Fisher is supposed to be a genius with quarterbacks, but Kellen Mond appears to be going in reverse. Could it be that Fisher was just bailed out by having Jameis Winston and, dare we say, Jeremy Pruitt?

Well, we’ll know soon enough. After the Arkansas Razorbacks at home this weekend, Fisher has two weeks to prepare for the game against the Alabama Crimson Tide at home. He needs to show he can be competitive in that setting. The schedule gets much easier after that, but such a game will define where the Aggies are going.
