The Tennessee Vols’ bye week still has numerous great games to cover. Here are our Week Five SEC and top 25 college football predictions.

Well, it all came crashing down together this past Saturday. Our college football predictions were mediocre, and the Tennessee Vols suffered another embarrassing loss. Now, with Tennessee football hitting its bye week, maybe things will change a bit.

What’s clear is Rocky Top needs this bye after a 34-3 loss to the Florida Gators and a 1-3 start to the season. Nobody saw this coming Jeremy Pruitt’s second season, and a turnaround looks harder and harder to achieve.

However, it’s still within reach for our college football predictions straight-up and on gambling picks, despite our struggles. Here’s a look at how we performed on all 10 games last week, the first week featuring top 25 games not involving SEC teams.

Record for Week Four predictions straight-up: 6-4

Gambling Record:  9-11

Against the spread: 4-6

On the Over/Under: 5-5

So once again, we had a losing record. However, we did have a jump over the previous week, which was a total disaster and appeared to be the price to pay for UT winning. Here is a look at where we stand on the year now.

Overall record for predictions straight-up: 36-11

Gambling Record: 36-39-1

Against the spread: 18-19-1

On the Over/Under: 18-20

This week, though, things can change. It’s our first week with two non-SEC games featuring top 25 teams, and without Tennessee football that makes things interesting. There are no SEC games featuring two top 25 teams.

Instead, we have four games involving two SEC teams to call and two more featuring an SEC team against a non-conference team, one a Group of Five opponent and the other an FCS opponent. With four teams in the league on bye, that gives us six SEC games overall, five on gambling picks. Those two top 25 games give us eight games to call overall, seven on gambling picks.

With the Tennessee Vols on a bye, we’re just going to make our predictions in the order of which the games are scheduled to be played. So here are our SEC and top 25 college football predictions for Week Five of the 2019 season.
