At 1-3, Tennessee football has lots of players who need to get better during the open date. Here are the five Volunteers who most need to do so.
It’s pretty safe to say that there are more than a few players for Tennessee football who need to get better. After all, a 1-3 team that has yet to beat anybody in FBS play and lost two games at home to non-Power Five schools could use improvement across the board.
However, the Vols have shown dramatic improvement in some areas. The problem is when those players begin trending upward, issues elsewhere arise. It has been a consistent theme throughout the first four games of the year.
Jeremy Pruitt needs a lot more help from different players if Tennessee football is going to turn things around. That includes athletes on both sides of the ball and some of the key playmakers we expected to see on this team at the beginning of the year.
But who needs to step his game up the most? In this post, we’re going to break down the answer to that question. With the bye week here, Pruitt and the coaching staff have two weeks for everybody to step their game up.
Given the personnel on the team, though, some need to step up their game more than others. Our criteria for this post is not based on who the worst major contributors on the team are. These are simply the players whose improvement will do the most for the Vols. We will identify what those players need to improve on as well to boost UT’s potential to turn things around.
Plenty of other players have had issues this season, to be fair. But these guys are the ones who are just the most needed, and they also haven’t shown the upward trend yet that the Vols need to see from him.
