After a blowout loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, the Tennessee Volunteers remain in the Southeastern Conference cellar in our Week Six SEC Power Rankings.

There may be some hope with a quarterback change, but Tennessee football saw no movement in our SEC Power Rankings this week coming off the bye. In fact, very few teams at the bottom of the league saw any movement.

However, the breakdown of the conference as a whole is beginning to take shape. One of the elite five managed to fall back into the pack on Saturday while another one managed to assert itself. Meanwhile, a couple of more teams at the bottom showed where they belong in what could have been a postseason elimination game.

With so many teams on a bye this week in the league, six to be exact, we didn’t have enough to dramatically change our SEC Power Rankings. But we had more than enough to change a few positions at the top.

Meanwhile, there were some but fewer changes at the bottom. The middle of the pack stayed largely the same. What’s clear, though, is that this still looks like the toughest conference in the nation, and this past weekend didn’t do anything to change that.

The tiers are a bit more muddied only because one of the undefeated teams who should be in the top tier may have fallen out due to a loss, but that one undefeated team still remains above any other undefeated team with a loss. That makes it a bit tricky.

Things are really set to make an impact this week with six games involving two teams in the conference, including one involving two top-tier teams. If there are a couple of upsets on top of that, then we could really see some movement.

But before then, let’s look back at what the first week of October did for the league standings. And let’s analyze what it all means. These are our SEC Power Rankings following Week Six of the 2019 college football season.
