Athlete Elijah Howard is committed to Tennessee football for 2021. The Volunteers commitment rejected a comparison to another elite UT athlete.

Amidst the struggles that Tennessee football has suffered throughout the year en route to a 1-4 record, one player is still excited to play for the Vols in his future. And he’s displaying his confidence on Twitter about it.

Elijah Howard, a local three-star athlete, is committed to UT for 2021. He has generated buzz recently with some of his highlights from playing running back, which is a strongly possible position for the 5’11” 165-pound prospect.

When a fan retweeted a video of a highlight run he tweeted out, he was referred to as Alvin Kamara Part 2. However, Howard rejected that, making it clear that he wants to be his own person with Tennessee football.

Now this is the type of commitment UT fans can get behind. Later in the day, he tweeted out the fact that he will be in Knoxville Saturday for the Vols’ game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. And he’s clearly excited about being a part of that program.

Perhaps it has something to do with him growing up in Knoxville, but Howard’s love for Tennessee football is clear and an encouraging sign for Vol fans. What’s also clear is that he wants to build his own legacy, and he should be applauded for that.

Comparisons to Kamara have come for each of UT’s other all-purpose backs to follow, including John Kelly, Ty Chandler and Eric Gray. He’s almost becoming the Peyton Manning of UT all-purpose backs, and that’s impressive since the Vols have had some good ones.

But Howard is up here wanting to do things his own way, and his elite abilities in open space have earned him the right to do that. According to Austin Price on Twitter, this guy is getting 250 yards a game right now from scrimmage at the high school level. So he should not bow to anybody, including NFL All-Pro running backs from Rocky Top.
