Stock down
Receivers
Jauan Jennings had 66 yards in the game. But nobody else really stepped up. And there were no receiving touchdowns. Meanwhile, Jennings also had a drop that was intercepted by the Alabama Crimson Tide. As a result, Tennessee football’s strongest unit had arguably its worst performance of the year on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
Going forward, Jim Chaney is going to continue to want to get the receivers going. That includes tight end Dominck Wood-Anderson, who has one final stretch run to make an impact as a senior who was a junior college transfer. The same holds true for seniors Jennings and Marquez Callaway. With the schedule softening up, now is the time for them to make huge plays.
Offensive line discipline
For as well as the offensive line played when it came to run-blocking, the discipline is still a major issue. Wanya Morris got hit with a holding penalty that killed one drive on Saturday and turned a touchdown into a field goal. Now, that was questionable. But K’Rojhn Calbert was also an ineligible receiver downfield on another play.
Darnell Wright had multiple issues. He has struggled to live up to his five-star billing not because he can’t play but because of his mistakes. Wright had back to back penalties, a false start and a holding, and the drive that Calbert had his, and that turned a touchdown into a field goal. He also allowed a sack. So this unit has got to get better at staying disciplined as it blocks better.
