Newcomers

Uros Plavsic (Transfer – Arizona State University)

Redshirt freshman; 7’0″ 240 pounds; Ivanjica, Serbia

Once a three-star recruit who played high school ball in Tennessee, Uros Plavsic is back on Rocky Top after taking a redshirt one season with the Arizona State Sun Devils. And he’s the key piece to Rick Barnes being able to establish a new identity. But UT has to wait on his eligibility waiver from the NCAA before he can go.

Plavsic can play, and at 7’0″ 240 pounds, his size would immediately help Tennessee basketball offset some of their losses. He can’t replace everything the Vols lost, but his size would be a big help. Given the fact that Barnes will likely have to go small this year anyway, one player of this size could change everything.

Olivier Nkamhoua

Freshman; 6’8″ 224 pounds; Helsinki, Finland

Rick Barnes lured Olivier Nkamhoua, a three-star who played high school ball in Western Maryland, late in the recruiting process. He is the third Tennessee basketball player from Europe on the team, and Barnes has been touting his development in the offseason. If that’s true, you could see him in a valuable role as a rotational player given how open the frontcourt is.

Drew Pember

Freshman; 6’9″ 207 pounds; Knoxville, Tenn.

A local three-star product, Drew Pember played for former Vol Bobby Maze’s AAU team. At 6’9″, he clearly also provides necessary size. But for now, his 207-pound frame could be a question. Whether or not he has the size is another question for him along with whether or not he’ll be ready to go this year.
