Tennessee Lady Vols: Ranking five 2019-2020 newcomers by potential impact
Kellie Harper’s only freshman signee, Jessie Rennie comes from Australia, which is why she did not have any ranking or wasn’t factored into the Tennessee Lady Vols’ recruiting class. But when you look at what she brings to the table and what UT lost, she actually has one of the most valuable skills on this team, which is why she may start immediately.
Rennie was recruited as a sharpshooter. Playing for national teams in Australia, she developed a reputation for being automatic from the free throw line and shooting always between 36 and 40 percent from the three-point line. Let’s not forget who left the Lady Vols this year. Meme Jackson, their three-point specialist, graduated.
That leaves a major opening for three-point shooting this year, especially with Evina Westbrook transferring. Rennie is the only player along with Rennia Davis that could be trusted to shoot a very high percentage from the three-point line, and that’s why she’s so high on this list.
Now, one concern of Rennie is that she missed playing in all of 2018 due to a torn ACL suffered in late 2017. But she should be over a year done with her recovery and back into basketball shape, so it should not affect her play with the Lady Vols. This 5’8″ freshman should be an immediate impact player for Harper’s new team. She is the sleeper star for the program.
