A home game for Tennessee football against the South Carolina Gamecocks leads our Volunteers, Southeastern Conference and top 25 picks.
While Jarrett Guarantano was fumbling away any chance Tennessee football had at upsetting the Alabama Crimson Tide this past Saturday, we had already fumbled away our week of picks. Yes, it was brutal.
So many close games in certain ways wrecked us in the end, and we have now started to trend downward just as there are signs of the Vols trending upward. How’s that for a bit of irony with this team?
It was the one week in which all 14 SEC teams played, and they all played each other. And we had three other top 25 games to make it 10 games that we picked overall. Here is a look at how we performed overall.
Record for Week Eight predictions straight-up: 7-3
Gambling Record: 7-13
Against the spread: 5-5
On the Over/Under: 2-8
The over/under killed us. We were really close to being 11-9, as the Michigan-Penn State game was two points away from hitting the under, the Oregon-Washington game was one point off the spread, the Georgia-Kentucky game was four points off the spread, and the LSU-Mississippi State game was five points off. Here’s how we are looking on the year now.
Overall record for predictions straight-up: 64-17
Gambling Record: 69-71-2
Against the spread: 36-34-1
On the Over/Under: 33-37-1
Yes, we join Tennessee football now by being under .500. But like the Vols we’re looking for a strong finish to the season, and this final week of October games is the perfect setting to get us going on the right track.
There are four teams with a bye this week in the conference, the Ole Miss Rebels, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores. The other 10 play each other. Then we have two games featuring two top 25 teams, giving us seven games to cover overall.
Those top 25 games include one between two Big Ten teams and another between a Big Ten and an Independent. As usual, we will predict the games in the order that they are scheduled while closing with the Vols’ matchup.
Can we recover from a brutal week? Will you guys continue to trust us? Well, let’s give it another go. These are our Tennessee football, SEC and top 25 predictions for Week Nine of the 2019 college football season.
