Offense

Quarterback: A

Combined, Tennessee football’s quarterbacks completed 18-of-30 passes for 351 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Jarrett Guarantano was 11-of-19 for 229 yards and two touchdowns, and JT Shrout was seven-of-11 for 122 yards and a touchdown. Without Brian Maurer, it’s pretty safe to say that both of these guys played great.

Running back: B+

Ty Chandler, Tim Jordan and Eric Gray combined for 100 total yards on 27 carries. They were basically average, although Chandler himself was solid with 16 carries for 78 yards. But they get a B+ because they were very effective when it came to pass-blocking, which is why the quarterbacks could make big plays. That counts in a major way.

Wide receiver/Tight end: A

Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway both had over 100 yards and three offensive touchdowns. Jennings had 174 receiving yards and 18 rushing yards, and he actually hit Callaway on a completion that was negated. Josh Palmer had 55 yards, and Dominick Wood-Anderson would have had a touchdown if not for a missed pass interference call. So the whole unit was elite.

Offensive line: B+

Darnell Wright and Wanya Morris both got hurt. The run blocking against an elite Will Muschamp defense could have been better. But overall, this unit was very good, particularly on the interior, which is becoming one of the best interior lines in the league. An average of fewer than four yards a carry is why this unit gets a B+ and not an A.

Overall offensive grade: A

Against Will Muschamp, the Vols scored 27 points offensively. They also had another drive stopped on the one thanks to a missed pass interference, and they had a missed field goal within 40 yards. So this unit did its part to score 37 points. Of course it gets an A!
