Biggest questions

1. Will Zaay Green or Jordan Horston be the new go-to guard?

You’re talking about the No. 2 ranked guard nationally from the 2018 recruiting class and the No. 1 ranked guard from this year’s recruiting class. Zaay Green was the No. 2 guard and has the experience. Horston is the one with the hype.

And they join a Tennessee Lady Vols program that has to replace its best player from last year, a guard in Evina Westbrook. Kellie Harper needs to find a go-to ball handler who can also shoulder the scoring load, and it will come down to these to players.

2. Who emerges when it comes to three-point shooting?

We already talked about how Meme Jackson’s departure leaves a major hole when it comes to three-point shooting. But who’s going to be able to replace that? Jessie Rennie was recruited to do it. Returning players could help, though.

This could go to our first question. Did Zaay Green add an outside shot to her elite game? Is there a chance Jordan Horston already has it? What about Jazmine Massengill or Rae Burrell? We know Rennia Davis can shoot, but Harper needs an outside shooting specialist at guard. And there’s no proven player there yet.

3. Can anybody provide depth on the wing?

Speaking of Rennia Davis, she is clearly the best player on the team who is returning this year. And with Westbrook gone, she’ll have to shoulder an even larger scoring load. But can she get any help at her position?

Davis may play down low some, and she will also have to go to the bench to rest at times. In both instances, Harper needs somebody to step up on the wing. Can Burrell develop, or will somebody else have to do it? That’s critical for the program going forward.
