With a new look, the Tennessee Lady Vols have some returning players who could emerge. Here are five potential breakout women’s basketball Volunteers.

Coming off their exhibition win over the Carson-Newman Eagles, the Tennessee Lady Vols appear willing to go deep into their roster to win games. Kellie Harper played all 12 players, and whomever started was irrelevant.

After all, freshman phenom Jordan Horston didn’t start the game, but she ended up playing 22 minutes, leading everybody else in minutes played. While the play of everybody was worthy of critique, we have to remember that it was an exhibition. So how deep Harper went into her roster for significant minutes matters more.

With three starters gone from last year, including their best all-around player in Evine Westbrook transferring to the UConn Huskies and their best three-point shooter and starting center both graduating, we knew that there would be lots of attrition for the Tennessee Lady Vols. That would be a mark of their first season with a new head coach.

However, there is a solid mix of returning key stars and an elite recruiting class. But what about the returning players on the roster who haven’t seen a lot of action so far? That’s what this post is going to be about.

To be on this list, players have to have been on the roster last year but not started the majority of games, and they can’t have averaged double-figures. They also can’t have played more than 20 minutes a game.

These are rotational or even reserve players who may have seen some action but did not steal any headlines last year. While all the talk is about the returning stars like Rennia Davis and the newcomers like Horston, the improvement of these players will be crucial.

And we’ll list them by their potential to explode. But who are these players? What impact can they provide for Harper? Let’s break it down now. This is our ranking of the five potential breakout Tennessee Lady Vols for 2019-2020.
