Tennessee Lady Vols: Five potential breakout players for 2019-2020
Rae Burrell has the same position on the depth chart that she had last year. She is the wing player backing up Rennia Davis, who is the superstar player on the roster as the team’s leading scorer and leading returning rebounder. As somebody who could play the four or the three given how small Kellie Harper chooses to go, Burrell is clearly Davis’s direct backup.
The result of not really having a chance to be a regular starter is why Burrell is No. 4 on this list and not higher. However, she will still be a valuable player for the Tennessee Lady Vols, and unlike Kamera Harris, she is likely to see lots of minutes as a rotational player. So she couldn’t be in last place on this list.
Remember, Burrell played nearly 13 minutes a game last year and saw action in all 32 games off the bench, averaging over three and a half points and just under three rebounds. Her issue was shooting efficiency, as she shot under 22 percent from three, under 32 percent from the field and under 57 percent from the free throw line.
But entering her sophomore year at 6’1″, she showed dramatic improvement in that efficiency at least during the exhibition, finishing second to only Davis in scoring with 15 points and almost getting nine rebounds. So her potential to take a major leap is through the roof.
