As the University of Alabama-Birmingham gets set to visit Tennessee football, there are many questions for the UT Volunteers and Blazers.

It’s a bit odd to be facing a 6-1 FBS team for homecoming, but that’s the task ahead for Tennessee football on Saturday as they continue to try to turn things around in Jeremy Pruitt’s second season. Hey, at least fans could get excited about a decent opponent.

If the Vols win, it will be their second victory this season over a team with a winning record when they faced them and their first over a team that currently has a winning record. So as they try to turn a corner with a 3-5 record and 2-3 SEC record, this is actually a solid step forward.

As the UAB Blazers come to town, though, there is still a lot we don’t know about both teams. It’s clear that we don’t know a lot about Tennessee football given the way the program looks dramatically different from the start of the year.

At the same time, though, we still have a lot to figure out about this UAB team that is looking to repeat as Conference-USA champions. Saturday will tell us a lot about both teams that we have been waiting to figure out.

November will be a gigantic month for each program, so each team will be able to use this as a measuring stick. We honestly don’t even know if they are on similar levels or not, but that goes to deeper questions we have about the programs.

Sure, the Vols are a double-digit favorite. That didn’t mean anything when they opened the season, though. Simply put, anything could happen on Saturday, and it’s worth noting that the last meeting between these two schools did go to overtime.

So what are we trying to figure out here? How many things need to be answered? Let’s break that down in this post. These are our five big questions about the Vols and Blazers when Tennessee football hosts UAB on Saturday night.
