Ranking the five most important Tennessee Lady Vols for 2019-2020
One of the shockers of the year was the fact that Kellie Harper started Jazimne Massengill over Jordan Horston at point guard in the exhibition game. That is why we have Massengill ahead of her for now. If she gets the start, then unlike in that game, she’ll likely see more of the minutes for the Tennessee Lady Vols this year.
That makes her more important. And honestly, given her own potential and experience, she should be more important, even to the task of replacing Evina Westbrook. Her transfer to the UConn Huskies leaves the door open for Massengill to explode onto the scene as a superstar nobody on Rocky Top saw coming.
In 2018-2019, Massengill averaged nearly three and a half points, three and a half rebounds and one and a half points in an average of 17.8 minutes off the bench. She played in all 32 games. At 6’0″, if she can dramatically improve her 15.4 percent three-point shooting, then she is in perfect position to be the sheriff for the Tennessee Lady Vols all year.
Don’t forget that Massengill was a five-star player in the 2018 recruiting class, and her rating was only one point below Horston’s. She was the No. 6 ranked guard. Combine that with her experience, and she could easily be a go-to player this year. That’s good enough reason for us to give her the No. 4 spot on this list.
