Tennessee football at Kentucky: Five Wildcats to watch for against Vols
While Joshua Paschal is the designated edge rusher for the Kentucky Wildcats, DeAndre Square would be the equivalent of Daniel Bituli in this system. And he’s another guy Tennessee football will have to account for at all costs, as he’s the player to keep everything going and hold it all together for Mark Stoops’s defense.
Square is second on the team in tackles with 56, but he leads everybody who is not a defensive back. Also, he has four tackles for a loss and one and a half sacks. But he has an interception and a pass deflection as well, showing his versatility and all the ways he can make an impact. Nobody is on his level with the ability to do that.
As a result, UT will have to account for Square in coverage, on pass-rushes and in the run game. He can do it all and is the one player who can, which makes him a crucial guy on this list. All of the quarterbacks could have trouble with him.
At 6’1″ 204 pounds, Square is basically a defensive back lining up at linebacker in Stoops’s system. Think about what Eric Berry did for Monte Kiffin back in the day. And because he is only a sophomore, he will continue to get better. That spells bad news for UT nut just for this year but potentially for next year as well.
