Tennessee Vols morning report: Jeremy Pruitt comments on 17-13 Kentucky win

Jeremy Pruitt talking about the Tennessee Vols football win at the Kentucky Wildcats leads our Volunteers news for Monday, Nov. 11, 2019.

Things truly are rolling right now among fans in Vol Nation. The Tennessee Vols football program is back to .500, neither basketball team has a loss yet with the season underway, and November is clearly in full swing for this program.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with the postgame coverage of UT’s huge win at Kentucky over the weekend. Coaches and players made comments on the game, and we’ll cover a bit of that. But Kentucky isn’t the only story.

The women’s basketball program has a huge game tonight, and we’ve got a preview of that to cover. Also, there are recaps in volleyball and swimming and diving to bring you as well along with Neyland Stadium news. So let’s dive in with the football coverage.

Coaches, players recap Kentucky game – UKAthletics.com

Jeremy Pruitt, Mark Stoops and a host of players met with the media after the Tennessee Vols football program’s 17-13 win at the Kentucky Wildcats Saturday. Players for UT included Nigel Warrior, Marquez Callaway and Daniel Bituli, and players for UK included Christopher Rodriguez Jr., Calvin Taylor Jr. and Jordan Griffin. Here’s a bit of what Pruitt said.

"“I can’t say enough about how proud I am of the resiliency that everybody that was on this trip who found a way to win the game. We did way too many things that dug ourselves a hole. We made a lot of mistakes on how we were going to handle the quarterback on the edge. There were a few things that Kentucky did that we never seen before. Too many basic fundamental plays that we didn’t play very well for whatever reason, and you can’t do that. Missed too many tackles.”"

Kellie Harper previews Lady Vols at Notre Dame – Maria Cornelius, GoVols247

With a 2-0 record, the Tennessee Lady Vols have their first real test of the season Tuesday night, as they get set to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Here’s a bit of what women’s basketball head coach Kellie Harper said about the matchup.

"“Our pace is important to us, and when we play fast, we’ve been better. We want to have a good tempo, and we’ve got to be able to slow their tempo on the other end.”"

Neyland Stadium renovation plans released – WBIR

Athletic director Phillip Fulmer released plans for upcoming renovations to Neyland Stadium over the weekend. Plans are set to go through 2022.

"Some work has already been completed, like the 360-degree LED ribbon board around the stadium that debuted this season. Another addition made this season was beer sales at Neyland Stadium, made possible by a change in SEC policy and state law.The big goals for the next phase of the renovation will be to give the stadium a consistent exterior appearance and improve fan experiences."

Swimming and diving sweeps the weekend – Andy Ross, Swimming World Magazine

The Tennessee Vols swimming and diving program had a complete weekend, with the men and women sweeping the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday. On Saturday, they faced different opponents, but both won.

"The men’s squad opened the day against Georgia Tech, winning 12 of 16 events and got a three-win day from senior Alec Connolly.…The women hit the water against Vanderbilt in the second meet of the day, running a different lineup than usual, but showed their depth as the Lady Vols swept the Commodores, winning all 14 events."

Volleyball sweeps Alabama – UTSports

After a week off, the Tennessee Lady Vols volleyball team made the most of that time and came out strong Sunday afternoon against the Alabama Crimson Tide on the road. They swept the Tide in three sets.

"The Lady Vols (11-12, 5-8 SEC) had five players with eight or more kills while the team had a SEC season-best .419 hitting percentage en route to the first straight-set victory over Alabama (12-11, 4-8 SEC) since 2016. With the win, Tennessee passes the Crimson Tide in the conference standings and sit just a game back of Ole Miss."
