Tennessee basketball vs. Murray State: Vols live stream, game time, TV, radio
A week after its opener, Tennessee basketball takes the court again. Here is our preview for the Volunteers as they get set to host the Murray State Racers.
As their 2019-2020 schedule gets progressively tougher, Tennessee basketball has a decent test against a mid-major opponent Tuesday night that has made the last two NCAA Tournaments. And this is their last game before a neutral site showdown with the Washington Huskies Saturday.
Rick Barnes’s kids put their 1-0 record on the line with another home game against the Murray State Racers, who are also 1-0 and looking to reload under fifth-year head coach Matt McMahon after the loss of second-round draft pick Ja Morant. The Vols host this game one week after its 78-63 season-opening victory over the UNC Asheville Bulldogs.
Just one day after a huge upset win by the Tennessee Lady Vols and their new-look program, the men’s team does not want to get outdone. So they’ll likely focus heavily on winning this game. Here is all the information you need for Tuesday night’s matchup for Tennessee basketball.

Murray State and Tennessee basketball are actually in similar situations, which makes this matchup interesting. Both are under the leadership of fifth-year head coaches, and both are rebuilding after losing key talent the previous year.
We already talked about Morant, who led the Racers to back to back Ohio Valley Conference titles and the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. They also lost their second-leading scorer, LeRoy Buchanan.
Meanwhile, we know what the Vols lost with four starters now in the NBA and the blow from the NCAA denying the eligibility waiver to transfer Uros Plavsic, which they are still appealing. So they both have to figure out how to replace NBA talent.
But UT and Murray State are also similar in that they return two guys who scored double-figures last year. Guars Jordan Bowen and Lamonte Turner are those players in the Vols’ case. For the Racers, guard Tevin Brown and forward Darnell Cowart, who was last year’s Ohio Valley newcomer of the year, are the players.
While the Vols won their opener over UNC Asheville, Murray State won there’s 69-49 over Southern University last Saturday. As we mentioned to start this slide, Tennessee basketball needs to focus on this game before it can handle an even bigger test by facing a Power Five opponent in Canada Saturday. Things are about to get tough for Barnes and co.
