At 2-0, Tennessee basketball has a major test in Toronto Saturday. Here is our preview for the Volunteers against the No. 20 ranked Washington Huskies.

Rick Barnes takes his young team to Canada for Tennessee basketball’s first tough matchup of the year Saturday. The Vols will face the No. 20 ranked Washington Huskies in the James Naismith Classic at the Scotiabank Arena in Washington.

This is UT’s first game away from home, as they opened the season with a 78-63 win over the UNC Asheville Bulldogs and then beat the Murray State Racers 82-63 a week later. While Murray State is a quality mid-major opponent, Washington is a significantly tougher test.

With Tennessee basketball being five spots out of the top 25, this is likely a game to determine who will be ranked in the next AP Poll on Monday. Here is all the information you need for Saturday’s matchup.

Just like Tennessee basketball, Washington enters this game with a 2-0 record as well. However, unlike the Vols, they have already scored a quality win. Washington beat the No. 16 ranked Baylor Bears 67-64 in Alaska to open the season just over a week ago. After that, they beat the Mount Saint Mary’s Mountaineers 56-46 in Seattle.

Under third-year head coach Mike Hopkins, Washington is coming off a 27-9 season in which they made the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They lost their four leading scorers but added Kentucky Wildcats transfer Quade Green and still have plenty of talent.

Should UT win this matchup, they are likely to stay in the top 25 heading into the Emerald Coast Classic in two weeks, as their next two games will be against the Alabama State Hornets and Chattanooga Mocs before that. That makes this a huge opportunity for them. With four new starters, this will be the best test to gauge where they are.
