Rick Barnes’s comments on the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team beating the Washington Huskies leads our Volunteers news for Monday, Nov. 18, 2019.

Although the football team didn’t play over the weekend, the Tennessee Vols program managed to continue their red-hot run in November with a huge men’s basketball win. Now men’s and women’s basketball have scored huge victories.

The after math of that win leads our morning update on Rocky Top. It was just another successful Saturday, and we’re obviously going to stick with our coverage of that to kick off this week. What else would we do?

It’s not the only story, though. Football bowl projections, results in cross country regionals, and a volleyball signing class all were part of the news surrounding UT over the weekend. Let’s start with the basketball news.

Rick Barnes speaks after Washington win – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

Following their 75-62 win over the No. 20 ranked Washington Huskies, Rick Barnes led the postgame press conference for the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team. Lamonte Turner and Jordan Bowden also spoke. Here’s a bit of what Barnes said.

"“We know that when you play a game of this caliber, it is going to be a 40-minute grind. We knew they would make a push to get back and cut it to seven. Really proud of the way our guys kept their poise and were able to close it out.”"

Jerry Palm speaks about Vols bowl hopes – Dan Harralson, VolsWire.com

CBS Sports’s Jerry Palm spoke with VolsWire about where he thought the Tennessee Vols football team could go bowling. He noted that the record at this point is a bit irrelevant as long as they reach bowl eligibility.

"“I think the Music City Bowl or Liberty Bowl are most likely,” Palm said of Tennessee. “The Texas Bowl and Belk Bowl are also in play with an outside chance at the Gator Bowl.”"

Cross country teams left out of championships – NCAA.com

Neither the men’s or women’s Tennessee Vols cross country programs were selected for NCAA Championships. The women just missed an automatic qualifying spot by coming in third in the South Regionals, and they did not receiver an at-large bid. Meanwhile, the men’s cross country program placed 12th.

"Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large."

Volleyball signing class announced – UTSports

On Friday, the Tennessee Lady Vols volleyball team added more members to the program. Head coach Eve Rackham announced Jasmine Brooks (OH), Allie Holland (MB) and Kya Moore (S/DS) as members of the program’s 2020 signing class.

"“We are excited about our newest additions to the Lady Vol Volleyball family,” Coach Rackham said. “Each of these young women are talented in their position and will add great depth to our 2020 roster.”"
