After a huge win on Saturday, men’s Tennessee basketball is back at home. Here is our preview for the Volunteers against the Alabama State Hornets.

They upset the Washington Huskies on a neutral court on Saturday and are back in the top 25. Now, Tennessee basketball has to show it can handle the newfound expectations as they take the court again Wednesday night.

Rick Barnes’s young team has plenty of veterans used to playing with a number by their name, including Lamonte Turner, Jordan Bowden, Yves Pons and John Fulkerson. But how the freshmen handle it is a different story.

As the Alabama State Hornets come to town Wednesday, we’ll get to see just how Tennessee basketball handles it, as they are ranked in the top 20 of both polls, at No. 17 in the Coaches Poll and right at No. 20 in the AP Poll. Here is all the information you need for Wednesday night’s matchup between the schools.

At 3-0, this is one of two more games left for Tennessee basketball before they head to Florida for the Emerald Coast Classic the day after Thanksgiving. They will face the Chattanooga Mocs next Monday ahead of that trip.

Alabama State comes in with an 0-3 record. However, all three of their losses are road games, and this is their fourth road game. The Gonzaga Bulldogs, Missouri State Bears and Houston Cougars were the teams to beat them. At their level, none of those are bad losses.

This team is led by Lewis Jackson, who is in his 15th year as head coach. They went 12-19 last year and lost leading scorer Reginald Gee. However, this team has Jacoby Ross back, who averaged double-figures last year, and Tobi Ewuosho has emerged by averaging 14 points a game despite only starting once. Kevin Holston is another returning starter and runs the point.

So this team does have some experience and a veteran coach. Add in their tough road to start the season, and they won’t be intimidated by the Vols. As a result, UT needs to remain focused despite how red-hot they have been so far. They don’t want what happened to the Kentucky Wildcats to happen to them.
