Preparations for the Tennessee Vols football team to face the Missouri Tigers leads our Volunteers news for Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019.

Another win in the books for women’s basketball, men’s basketball getting set to try for a win as well, and football still preparing for Saturday. These are the stories surrounding the Tennessee Vols as their main programs remain red-hot in the month of November.

Our morning update on Rocky Top focuses on all of those things, with football being the main storyline. We have an update on how they’re looking in the middle of the week and aftermath of interviews with multiple players to talk about.

In fact, all of these stories are related to interviews. The women’s basketball victory includes postgame interviews, and the men’s basketball storyline is tied to other drama related to it right now. We’ll take all of that into account with today’s news. But let’s start with football’s mid-week preparations for Saturday.

At 5-5, the Tennessee Vols football team continued practicing Wednesday in preparations to face the Missouri Tigers in Columbia on Saturday. In addition to practicing, numerous players met with the media, including Kivon Bennett, Daniel Bituli, LaTrell Bumphus, Marquez Callaway, Trey Smith and Nigel Warrior. Here’s a bit of what Bituli said.

"“We had a lot of little sparks during the season. After going against a really great running back in the Mississippi State game, we realized that if we’re communicating as much as possible on the field, if we know what we were going to do, if we read our cues correctly, then the world is ours. We can stop anybody. Definitely that game really showed that we can do it for a whole game.”"

Kellie Harper recaps Lady Vols win – SI.com

On Tuesday, the Tennessee Lady Vols moved to 5-0 with their first win as a ranked team, beating the Stetson Hatters 73-46. That was their second game in a six-game home stand, and they won’t play again until they face the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions next Tuesday, Nov. 26. Here is a bit of what head coach Kellie Harper had to say about the win.

"“I thought our team performed better than we performed last week, and that growth was great to see. Our practices leading up this game, I felt, were better, sharper, a little bit more motivated, and it showed in our play.”"

Tennessee-Memphis a lead story ahead of Vols next game – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

Coming off a huge 75-62 win over the Washington Huskies, the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team returns to the court Wednesday night to face the Alabama State Hornets at home at 7 p.m. However, the storyline has been the rivalry with Memphis, as Rick Barnes hinted the series might not continue. Penny Hardaway then came back and said it’s good for the state to play the game.

"Tennessee-Memphis Part II is 25 days away. Tickets for the Dec. 14 game at Thompson-Boling Arena sold out more than a month ago. But will the series between the two rivals continue after the three-year contract runs out next season with a neutral-site game in Nashville?"
