They just keep winning. Tennessee football continued its red-hot turnaround in Jeremy Pruitt’s second season with a 24-20 win over the Missouri Tigers to get to 6-5 and clinch bowl eligibility on the year for the first time since 2016.
Once again, the fell behind. And once again, they needed a defensive stand to win. Oh, they also converted a key third down, twice this time, to get the victory on their final drive. It was also their second win on the road.
Simply put, the Vols continued to show they are a drastically different team from the one that started 0-2 with two losses to Group of Five programs. Here is a photo gallery to show some of the memorable moments from Tennessee football’s win.
This time, Jarrett Guarantano got the start rather than coming off the bench. And he played even better, throwing for two touchdowns and over 400 yards with no interceptions in the win, once again coming through for Rocky Top after such a horrendous start to the season.
Three receivers in Marquez Callaway, Jauan Jennings and Josh Palmer all went for over 100 yards in the game, and Callaway and Jennings each had a touchdown. It was the third time this season Jennings and Callaway each had over 100 yards and a touchdown.
While UT got to 6-5 and over .500 for the first time this year, Mizzou continued its slide, now falling to 5-6 in Barry Odom’s third year after starting 5-1. But they do get to face the Arkansas Razorbacks, the worst team in SEC, next week, even if it is on the road, where they have yet to get a win.
The Vols get to face the Vanderbilt Commodores at home to move to 7-5, meanwhile. It’s definitely a unique position for them to be in, as they have a chance to also have a winning record in the SEC for the first time since 2015. Simply put, this has been an amazing run for them.
