Tennessee football Smokey points: Top five Vols in 24-20 Missouri win
Don’t look now, but Marquez Callaway just went over 100 yards receiving with a touchdown for the third time in four games. He was always the No. 2 wideout and No. 1 playmaker among wide receivers for Tennessee football this year, and that has really begun to manifest itself over the past few weeks.
Like Josh Palmer, Callaway was a key playmaker at the Kentucky Wildcats. And like Palmer, Callaway continued that success at the Missouri Tigers. In fact, he was a bigger playmaker both times. The senior came through all game, making key play after key play, and he is having an incredibly strong finish to his senior season.
Callaway finished this game with six receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown. That touchdown was on a 3rd and 5 fade pattern to put the Vols’ up 24-17, and he caught it despite Mizzou being offside and having a penalty in the end zone on that play. So he continues to prove how great of a playmaker he is.
Other key plays by Callaway include a 16-yard catch on the Vols’ first touchdown drive and two catches for 28 yards on their second touchdown drive. He also had a 31-yard catch on the same drive in which he scored the TD. So he came through on every UT touchdown drive, and that’s why he’s earned his way on this list.
