With a 6-5 record, Tennessee football is now bowl eligible. Here is a ranking of postseason possibilities for the Volunteers by likelihood.

Barring a crazy turn of events having nothing to do with eligibility, Tennessee football is going bowling. Regardless of who they beat or how they beat them, that is welcome news to the ears of all Vols fans after such down times.

In 2017, this team had the worst season in the modern era of the school’s history, going 4-8 and winless in the conference. They followed that up with the Greg Schiano debacle and then a 5-7 season their first year under Jeremy Pruitt. But at 0-2 and then 1-4 to start this year, the remained in the dumps.

However, at 6-5, things are looking up for Tennessee football. What’s more impressive is the fact that the Vols, given their third place standing in the SEC East, may find themselves going to a much better bowl than anybody expected them to.

But what bowl are they most likely to make? Well, that’s going to be our focus for this post. This week and next week, we’ll be breaking down the best bowl opportunities for the Vols as they close out the season.

Only six bowls are in play for UT right now. Three are equally unlikely. Then the other three rank in separate tiers. We’ll separate the unlikely three into one tier on a slide and then give the other three each their own slide.

Now, there are many factors that go into play here. One of them is what they do. If they lose to the Vanderbilt Commodores at home, it could dramatically alter the outlook of the bowl picture for the Vols, even though they will still go bowling.

At the same time, it depends on what happens with the New Year’s Six bowl tie ins. The SEC could have up to five teams make it, but in a nightmare and extremely unlikely scenario for them, they could also have only one team get in.

That will also affect where UT goes. But what’s the most likely landing spot? It’s time to break all of that down for Jeremy Pruitt’s second team. These are our Tennessee football bowl projections following Week 13 of the 2019 season.
