Minnesota Golden Gophers over Wisconsin Badgers

Line: Wisconsin -2.5; Over/Under: 47.5; TV: ABC

Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3:30 p.m. ET; TCF Bank Stadium; Minneapolis, Minn.

We already mentioned the fact that three Big Ten teams are likely to make New Year’s Six bowl games. However, the key has to be making sure that more team don’t make those bowl games so as to open the door for more SEC teams. Part of that is eliminating the Wisconsin Badgers from contention to make it.

Right now, Wisconsin has two losses and is ahead of the Auburn Tigers. But should they lose to the Minnesota Golden Gophers after Auburn beats the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn will indisputably move ahead of them. However, if Wisconsin beats Minnesota, both teams could potentially stay ahead of them.

After all, Minnesota will then be stuck with two losses, and they won’t be going to the Big Ten Championship game to get a third loss. As a result, both teams could remain ahead of Auburn. That’s a nightmare scenario, meaning the key is for Minnesota to eliminate Wisconsin from any contention to make a New Year’s Six bowl.

All of this simply means Tennessee football needs to root for Minnesota to take care of business at home against Wisconsin. They are at home and ranked higher, but Wisconsin is favored. So this would be a slight upset, but it has to happen. The Big Ten is the biggest threat to five SEC teams, and this is the way to stop that.
