Seniors discussing their final home game for the Tennessee Vols football program leads our Volunteers news for Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019.

When it comes to their major sports, they just keep winning. And there was another one of those Tuesday night. However, the lead story for the Tennessee Vols still deals with specific football players who deserve their day in the sun.

Our morning update on Rocky Top will focus on the seniors, many of whom spoke with the media Tuesday about their final home game. We’ll touch on that along with a key update for one of the players who is in a unique situation.

After that, though, we have the aftermath of a women’s basketball victory to bring you. Academic recognition for football players is also on the list, along with multiple updates on smaller sports, including a volleyball preview and a swimmer being recognized. So let’s get started with this busy Wednesday before Thanksgiving by touching on the football veterans.

Seniors talk about preparing for final home game – Rocky Top Insider

Jauan Jennings, Marquez Callaway, Daniel Bituli, Darrell Taylor, Nigel Warrior and Riley Lovingood were seniors who met with the media Tuesday to talk about their final home game. Brandon Kennedy also met with them and said he will seek a medical waiver for a sixth year of eligibility.

"Tennessee’s match-up with in-state foe Vanderbilt will be Senior Night inside Neyland Stadium, and several fan-favorite Vols will be honored pre-game as they run through the “T” one last time. On Tuesday, almost all of Tennessee’s seniors spoke with the media about their upcoming final home game of their UT careers."

Kellie Harper on Lady Vols win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff – SI.com

On Tuesday, the Tennessee women’s basketball team moved to 6-0 and won their first game as a team ranked in both polls, dominating the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 92-51. Here’s a bit of what Kellie Harper said after the game.

"“I thought in the first half, especially defensively, we were pretty solid. I thought our energy was pretty good. We did some things defensively with changing up our defenses to help that. We didn’t change it up as much in the second half, and I think that our energy was a little bit lower there.”"

The Tennessee Vols football program set a school record with four player earning CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honors. Paxton Brooks, Matthew Butler, Ryan Johnson and Brandon Kennedy all made the list, helping UT lead all Power Five schools.

"First Team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced December 9-12."

Volleyball hosts Auburn on Senior Night – UTSports

With a 13-13 record and two games left, the Tennessee Lady Vols volleyball team is looking to get back above .500. That starts on Wednesday, as they host the 6-21 Auburn Tigers on Senior Night. The first serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET at Thompson-Boling Arena.

"Prior to the match Wednesday night, Tennessee will honor its four Lady Vol seniors in middle blocker Alyssa Andreno, setter Sedona Hansen, outside hitter Tessa Grubbs and defensive specialist/libero Asha Phillips. They have combined to play in 391 matches and 1,352 sets during their four years on Rocky Top."

Ericka Brown named SEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week – SECSports.com

After a memorable weekend for the Tennessee Vols at the Tennessee Invitational, some athlete are receiving recognition for that. Ericka Brown was named the SEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for her performance.

"Tennessee’s Erika Brown, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., won three individual events with nation-leading times as No. 2 Tennessee finished first at the Tennessee Invitational. Brown also helped the Lady Vols secure three relay event wins and two nation-leading times."
