Tennessee Volunteers beat Charlotte 49ers 14-3

Saturday, Nov. 3, 2016; Neyland Stadium; Knoxville, Tenn.

He had more yards in some games. Dominick Wood-Anderson’s best game in terms of yardage came against the Georgia State Panthers. In terms of touchdowns, you could look at the West Virginia Mountaineers, when he had the first touchdown of the season for the 2018 Tennessee football team, and the Kentucky Wildcats later that year in a 24-7 win.

A week before they beat Kentucky, though, Wood-Anderson was a key player for a horrific offensive performance in a big win. The Vols won this game 14-3, thanks in large part to elite defense and a punt return for a touchdown. Josh Palmer led the team in receiving with 71 yards and a touchdown.

But Wood-Anderson was the key player. In UT’s only offensive touchdown drive, he came away with a 33-yard reception that set up Jarrett Guarantano’s touchdown pass to Josh Palmer. He had another 12-yard reception that help put the Vols in field goal range in the second half, but the kick was missed.

Wood-Anderson finished the game with three receptions for 53 yards. He didn’t have a touchdown, but it was by far his most productive game. His catches facilitated one touchdown and kept the field position in UT’s favor, which dictated the outcome of this game. As a tight end, he did his job on this day.
