Conference championship predictions for 2019 college football season
The Tennessee Vols won’t be competing for any conference championship. But we’ll still do our predictions for all the titles games here.
Well, the final week of the regular season is where we took our dramatic turns. Tennessee football went one way, completing its turnaround to get to 7-5. We went the other way, and now we need the postseason, starting with conference championship week, to rebound.
While we were hanging by a thread above 50 percent on our gambling picks heading into Week 14, it was the biggest week of the year in terms of predictions we would make. And in the process, the bottom fell out.
Our picks have now collapsed to the point that it may be hard to make a comeback, even as we predict every single postseason game. Before looking ahead to that, here is a full rundown of how we did last week.
Record for Week 14 predictions straight-up: 12-1
Gambling Record: 6-19
Against the spread: 5-8
On the Over/Under: 2-11
As you can see, it was disastrous. We did nail our prediction for UT. But things immediately started off bad with the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels. That stupid penalty kept the game from going to overtime, which would’ve allowed it to hit the over and MSU to win by more than one point when they were favored by one and a half. Anyway, here’s where we now stand.
Overall record for predictions straight-up: 110-25
Gambling Record: 113-122-4
Against the spread: 63-54-3
On the Over/Under: 51-68-1
So we’re actually pretty good straight-up. And last week, we nailed most top 25 matchups on that specifically, including the Iron Bowl and the Michigan-Ohio State game. But we need a strong postseason to make a comeback on the gambling side.
It starts with conference championship game. Yes, even without the Vols in them, we will pick every single one of these matchups. All but two of them this weekend involve at least one top 25 team, and six involve two while five have College Football Playoff implications.
Overall, we have 10 games to pick. As usual, we will go in the order of which they were schedule. And with no UT game this weekend, we don’t have to go out of order to close with them. So let’s get started with our conference championship predictions for the 2019 season.
