Tennessee football all-decade team: Vols 2010s two-deep roster
Quarterback
1. Joshua Dobbs
2013-2016
Nobody would doubt this one. Joshua Dobbs was quarterback for three of Tennessee football’s four best teams this decade, including the only two teams to finish in the top 25 and with more than seven wins. Dobbs is also pretty much second or third all-time in school history in every statistical category related to total offensive production.
He’s behind Peyton Manning and Casey Clausen in total career yards, tied with Manning, Clausen and Gene McEver for second in total touchdowns in a game with five, behind Erik Ainge. And he’s second to Manning in career touchdowns and single-season yards. They’re tied for first in single-season touchdowns with 39. Dobbs was a star, and he leads this decade of UT quarterbacks.
2. Tyler Bray
2010-2012
We failed to mention Dobbs is third all-time in most total yards a game with 467. But he’s behind Manning and then this guy, who had the most total yards in a game with 530 against the Troy Trojans. For all of Tyler Bray’s issues, the guy put up numbers, and he had an amazing arm. Given his career as a consistent backup in the NFL, his talent is clear.
Bray has four of the Vols’ eight 400-yard passing games all time. And he was dominant his junior year, in 2012. His only problem was a disastrous defense, but that wasn’t his fault. Sure, Bray and Dobbs are different types of players, as Bray is a pocket passer, but any college offense would thrive with these two guys. One edge Dobbs gets, though, is his leadership. Bray had none.
