Slot Receiver
1. Denarius Moore
2007-2010
Most of Denarius Moore’s career with Tennessee football was in the 2000s. But we can’t ignore what he was able to do for the Vols in 2010. That year along, his play earned him a spot somewhere on this list as a wide receiver. While not technically a slot receiver, his smaller frame at 6’0″ made up for by his great hands and understanding of routes mean he could be a slot guy.
So we decided to put him here and let the other players we named as wideouts play there. Moore would be an elite starting slot guy. As a starting undersized wideout, he had 1,063 total yards and 10 total touchdowns in 2010 despite two different quarterbacks throwing him the ball. He and Gerald Jones both produced, but Moore was the star and earned this spot.
2. Zach Rogers
2009-2012
We could have made room for Gerald Jones given what he did in 2010 or even Alton “Pig” Howard for his production in 2014. But Zach Rogers produced over multiple years, and what he did in 2012 flies under the radar. While so many other big names, including Tyler Bray and Justin Hunter, stole the spotlight, Rogers was the one who did lots of the scoring.
For that year, Rogers had 491 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He finished his career with 906 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. But that 2012 season established him as a reliable slot receiver and clearly deserving of his spot on this depth chart as the backup slot guy.
