10. Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl

Florida State Seminoles over Arizona State Sun Devils

Saturday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. ET; Sun Bowl; El Paso, Texas; CBS

As the Florida State Seminoles get set to play their final game before Mike Norvell takes over for good, they pose no threat to Tennessee football. This is a program that enters bowl season 6-6 with an interim head coach, and their win would be no more of a quality win than Rocky Top’s over the Indiana Hoosiers.

So with a worse record, UT is fine. However, the Arizona State Sun Devils, just like the Vols, are 7-5. And they are receiving votes in the AP Poll, which UT isn’t, while they are one spot below in the Coaches Poll. A win over Florida State should not be more impressive than a win over Indiana, but the pollsters may not see it that way.

That shade of gray combined with the fact that they would have the same record if both teams won means that, at the very best for the Vols, things would stay where they are. However, if Florida State beats Arizona State, UT gets breathing room between them in the Coaches Poll and could leapfrog them in the AP Poll.

Right now, Arizona State is favored by four and a half points. But the Seminoles do have some real talent, so they could still pull off this upset in a bid to send off Odell Haggins and end the Willie Taggart era on a high note.
