Coming off an ugly loss to the Memphis Tigers, Tennessee basketball will visit the Cincinnati Bearcats Wednesday. Here is our preview for the Volunteers.

There’s no time to relax for Tennessee basketball. After losing at home 51-47 to the Memphis Tigers thanks to horrendous offensive play, the Vols have to face another AAC team, this time on the road, to continue their brutal December schedule.

Rick Barnes’s team, ranked No. 21 in both polls with a 7-2 record, will now travel to Ohio to face the Cincinnati Bearcats Wednesday night. There is a connection between these two schools, as Cincinnati lost its head coach from last year, Mick Cronin, to the UCLA Bruins after Barnes rejected their offer.

Now, the Bearcats are led by John Brennan, who arrived in Cincinnati after four years with the Northern Kentucky Norse, whom he led to the NCAA Tournament twice in three years. Here is everything you need to know about Tennessee basketball’s matchup.

Right now, Cincinnati is struggling in its first year under Brennan with a 6-4 record. The two-time defending AAC Champions, in the midst of a nine-year NCAA Tournament streak, have suffered back to back losses to the Xavier Muskateers and Colgate Raiders. Their other losses are at the Ohio State Buckeyes and against the Bowling Green Falcons on a neutral court.

However, this team can still be dangerous. It returned all three leading scorers from last year in Jarron Cumberland, Keith Williams and Tre Scott. So Tennessee basketball can’t take them lightly, especially after the way it looked on Saturday.

The Vols dropped four spots in the Coaches Poll and two in the AP Poll to get to No. 21. Their horrendous offensive performance against Memphis really exposed the way Lamonte Turner’s shoulder is bothering him, and that could end up being an issue down the road.

However, Jordan Bowden and Yves Pons also having horrendous shooting games at the same time was highly unlikely. And the bright spot was Josiah-Jordan James emerging. So UT still has some talent, and they still take care of all the little things. They have to do that again if they are going to win on Wednesday.
