Coming off a week’s rest, the Tennessee Lady Vols visit the Stanford Cardinal Wednesday night. Here is our women’s basketball Volunteers preview.

For the first time in over a month, the Tennessee Lady Vols will play a game away from home. Kellie Harper’s team will visit the top-ranked Stanford Cardinal in a huge matchup to begin two-game road stand on the West Coast after being off for a full week.

UT is coming off a six-game home stand in which they went 5-1, their only loss coming at the hands of the Texas Longhorns. After that game, though, they beat the Colorado State Rams 79-41, which was their last outing.

Despite that loss to Texas, they still enter this game ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll and No. 24 in the Coaches Poll, while Stanford is No. 1 in both polls. Here is everything you need to know about the Tennessee Lady Vols’ matchup.

Led by two-time national champion Tara Ann VanDerveer in her 34th year with the program and 41st year coaching overall, Stanford is 9-0 on the year. They lost leading scorer Alanna Smith from last year’s 31-5 Elite Eight team but returned every other starter and key player.

This team already has two top 25 wins, beating the No. 18 ranked Syracuse Orange and the No. 10 ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs in Canada on back-to-back days. They also beat the Ohio State Buckeyes, who VanDerveer coached in the early 1980s.

Simply put, this team is elite. However, the last time the Tennessee Lady Vols went on the road, they did beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who were ranked at the time. So Harper’s team can be dangerous.

After Stanford, UT will visit the Portland State Vikings on Saturday, then they will have an eight-day rest before closing out the year and non-conference play at home against the Howard Bison. So this is the last major non-conference game for the Lady Vols.
